Hooters Islandia NY
What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend then by hitting it up to Hooters? I personally have never been to this establishment before, but I’ve always heard good things from my friends and I absolutely knew that I have to try. Some of my female friends tell me that their wings are amazing, while the guys tell me that you don’t go there for the food. Who knows, it could be a combination of both but regardless, this is an adventure that I have to go to find out for myself.
Finechinaguy and I drove to here at 9PM which is convenient right off the highway. When we walked into the restaurant, it felt like a full blown college bar, with some minor exceptions of course. There were guys everywhere and only a sprinkle of the ladies. Amazing there were two or three families that were here with their young children which I thought was pretty cute. I initially had this idea that Hooters would be a raunchy place from what I hear from the guys, but that is not like that at all. Families come here for pete’s sake, so it’s not like going to a strip bar. Anyways, we were greeted by a lovely young waitress who gave us the opinion to sit where the high chairs were, or at a table of four. We opted for the lather because I hate sitting in high chairs.
The menus are located on the table and the waitress asked what drinks we wanted. We ordered sodas and then she asks if we know what we want, and of course we didn’t, and said that she’ll come back in a little while. I guess Finechinaguy and I were the first who didn’t know!
More after the jump!

Hooters Menu
The soda is huge! It’s either I haven’t been eating in chain establishments, or this place is very generous with their portions! Eating in a restaurant in the city, this would have been the equivalent of two or three cups of soda! I like it.
After five minutes of figuring out what we wanted and Finechinaguy gawking at every waitress that walked by, we order the following:

Hooters Fried Pickles
I’ve always seen these on Food Network when they’re doing a special on fried foods, and I make it my life’s goal to eat this! The sauce in the middle looks like mustard, but it’s actually horseradish mayo which I love! Honestly you don’t need this to eat fried pickles. They taste great with and without it, but if you want some texture in your mouth, go ahead and dip it in the sauce. The fried pickles retain it’s moisture and sourness when you take a bite which is great. My fear was that the pickle will taste more like the fried batter without any of the pickle taste, but luckily it didn’t turn out like that. If you like pickles as much as I do, go ahead and order a plate of fried pickles!

Hooters Mozzarella Sticks
Finechinaguy wanted mozzerella sticks because he wanted comfort food, plus it’s been a while since either of us have had this. The moz’ sticks seems a little too fried, which was why it was a little hard on the outside, but the cheese seemed to hold up nicely since I can see a string of cheese stretching from my mouth to the fork. It still makes great comfort food and there’s a nice cup of marinara sauce w/cheese if you want that taste.

Hooters Buffalo Chicken Sandwich
I couldn’t imagine myself just having fried chicken for dinner, even though that’s what Hooters is known for, so I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich came with the chicken wings as well, and I was already getting so full from the soda and appetizers. I regret ordering the sandwich too because I didn’t know how much food there will be! But I ate 1/4 of the chicken, while I gave half to Finechinaguy. The chicken cutlet tasted great since it wasn’t too fried and the meat was not dried. The sandwich comes with a side of your choice of cole slaw, baked beans, macaroni salad, or potato salad. I opted for the macaroni salad which smooth without too overpowering with the cheese and it had a hint of sweetness which I really liked. You also have a choice of ordering blue cheese, bacon, grilled onions, chili or grilled mushrooms for extra 59 cents. Listed above in the picture is blue cheese.

Hooters 911 Spicy Chicken Wings
I’m not a spicy foods person, but Finechinaguy is and he decided to get the second hottest wings on the menu to see how spicy it really is. The wings flavors comes as follows: Mild, medium, hot, 911-hot, 3-mile island-nuclear hot; as well as cajun, spicy garlic, bbq, and parmesan garlic. So, he ordered 10 “911 Hot Wings” while I chose to stay safe with 10 mild ones. 20 pieces are only $14.69 regardless of how hot your wings are which I think is pretty cheap compared to the Korean Fried Chicken from Kyochon or Bonchon which can cost up to $1 each wing and they come in much smaller pieces.
Anyways, my mild wings was not spicy at all which I couldn’t complain about. My female friends are right, the chicken is very good here. It tastes like homemade fried chicken that came right out of the kitchen but with a delicious batter. I remember how my grandmother would make me fried chicken, but Hooters seem to have made my grandmother’s chicken even better because they probably have a better batter. It is freshly made all the time because I can see the kitchen from where I was sitting, andthe skin taste so crispy and delicious that I just couldn’t stop eating even though I was on the brink of unknoting a couple of notches from my belt.
On the other side, Finechinaguy didn’t think his wings was as spicy as he thought, but he still thoroughly enjoyed it. He said that after when the wings get cold, it’s definitely not as spicy.
Anyways, neither of us could finish the wings so we packed it to go. This whole dinner cost about $40 which was not bad at all! This place is great for groups and it’s a great hangout especially if you have a birthday. Once you tell them that it is your birthday, the waitresses set up an interesting game for you to participate in.
I’m glad I got to experience Hooters and will definitely come back here in the future. Here’s a picture of the girls.
