Rome, Italy Termini Station
Not far away from the center of Rome is Termini Station, the main transportation hub. Our hotel, a small but fantastic four stars, Diocleziano Hotel was located a few blocks away which was out of the most touristy parts of the city. Infact, it seemed almost shady since the city had graffiti and many streets looked so old but it was perfectly safe.
When we were looking for dinner that evening after exploring the immediate neighborhood at Termini, we looked for a place for dinner. Of course we could have gone to the most touristy restaurants but that was not what we wanted. Lucky for us that we bumped into this local restaurant a block from our hotel! Its name is La Famiglia, Restorante Pizzeria. You can guess what it means. There is so much to mention about this restaurant that I’ll have to cut this into two posts! Here’s a sneak peak.

Rome La Famiglia Pizza Prosciutto Arugula
Doesn’t that pizza just looks delicious? More after the jump!

After finding this place, we couldn’t walk more than a block away before we came back to it. After a quick glance at the menu and the inside, we couldn’t resist trying it.

We were welcomed upon entry and quickly seated. The waiters were very nice. We could clearly see that this was a family owned business. It was very warm, friendly and service was excellent. On our way in, there was an Antipasto buffet (behind the waiter in the picture). We did not try that since we were aching to see what else they had. We went at about 8pm which was perfect. At about 9pm, it was packed. There was even a group of Japanese Elderly Tourists that came in filling in a bunch of the center tables.

The decor is beautiful, everything about it screamed old fashioned Italian decor including the table cloths and matching napkins.

How can you not have a taste of local wine from a beautiful jug like this?

Rome La Famiglia Restorante Pizzeria Mineral Water Aqua Panna
Like the rest of Europe, you’ll be drinking mineral water mainly and if you’re lucky, some places might serve Still Water. I haven’t had mineral water for too long so I was never used to the taste. But this is where I learned to drink it. Your other choice of course is a great selection of Wine and soft drinks.
Stay tuned for pictures of the food on the next post!

looking forward to part 2, the pics are wonderful!
Restaurant Famiglia is our favorite restaurant in Rome. The food and ambiance are great. They even have a great lunch buffet with wonderful cheeses and fresh garden vegetables. Prices are moderate The owner even looks like Dustin Hoffman. Enjoy!
Definitely, its out of the touristy areas and they know what good food is! I’ll be going back when I go to Rome again.
