Whole Chicken in a Can – Sweet Sue Canned Whole Chicken!

April 30, 2009 · Posted in American Food, Cheap Eats · 1 Comment

If you thought the Duck-in-a-Can I had from Au Pied de Cochon was weird, you’ll have to check this one out from Tracy at ihatemymessageboard.com. It’s amazing what you can fit into a can these days. I wonder whats next, maybe an Ostrich?  I should start a new section specifically for Poultry-in-a-Can.

If you think about it, it looks absolutely disgusting but its cooked meat in a can like any soups, chilis or hundreds of other meat products. But somehow it just makes me queasy looking at it and it doesn’t look much better after its been cooked (notice the feathers still on the chicken)

Chocolate Brownie Macadamia Cookies!

April 20, 2009 · Posted in Baked Goods, Cookies, Dessert, Recipes · 2 Comments

After a long work out at the gym this past Sunday, what better way to make myself feel better than to bake a batch of chocolate brownie cookies?  I refered to my favorite cookie recipe website, Cookie Madness, to look for a Chocolate Brownie recipe because I was absolutely craving for it!  I printed the recipe from her site and went to the Stop and Shop near my house to pick the ingredients up!

Now I tweaked her recipe just a little bit to my liking.

6 ounces of bittersweet dark chocolate (Scharffen Berger – in the candy aisle)
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate (100% Cocoa – Ghirardelli Chocolate)
6 tablespoons butter
1 1/4 cups brown sugar (the brown prevents the cookie from hardening)
3 eggs (I used organic eggs from Stop and Shop)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour (Pillsbury Flour)
1 cup  of nuts – Your choice of toasted walnut, pecans, or macademia chopped
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (Nestle)
*A couple of dashes of confectioner’s sugar

My advice is to have all your ingredients ready and prepared in a bowl.  You have to work fast with chocolate recipes!

Similar to the Cookie Madness recipe, I adjusted it according to my likings which you can see after the jump!

Kosher Coca Cola!

April 15, 2009 · Posted in Fast food, Snacks · Comment

Now I should have posted this earlier but I was too busy shopping for Coke with Real Sugar. As this was Passover recently, you can purchase Coke at your local Supermarket that is Kosher, that means it uses Real Sugar instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup. You can probably still find some. The Coke Bottles will have a little K symbol on the side label and a Yellow Cap. If you find cans, it should also have a symbol of a K. Coke is the only one of the Major labels that does this. Of course in other countries (like Canada), they sometimes use Natural Sugar.

Murray Street Restaurant – Ottawa, Canada

Murray Street Restaurant (Kitchen | Wine | Charcuterie)

110 Murray Street (Ottawa’s Byward Market)
Ottawa, Ontario

After a night of booze, we had a late start in Ottawa the next day. So what better way to wake up a hang over than with food! Brunch it was! We went back to Byward Market looking for this out of the way gem. It was very nondiscript and we almost missed it. The Murray Street Restaurant (on Murray Street!), is right next to the Byward Market with a large Pig with a M on the glass door.

Apparently this place was started by Paddy Whelan and Chef Steve Mitton, formerly of Social Restaurant & Lounge. Social is a very swanky Restaurant & Lounge right by Byward Market. When I say swanky, its swanky, dress up! Anyway, here’s a sneak peak.

Bukhara Grill Indian Restaurant, NYC

April 10, 2009 · Posted in Good for Groups, Indian · 3 Comments

Bukhara Grill
217 E. 49th St
(Btw 2nd and 3rd Ave)
(212) 888-2839

Reservation: In my experience it isn’t necessary unless you have a large group.  There are two floors and when I went at 7pm, there wasn’t a lot of people.

Price: Expensive

After hearing such rave reviews about Bukhara Grill, I decided to bring my friends here for dinner to celebrate Sally’s birthday!  I know Sally loves Indian food and I figure why not bring her to the “best indian city in the city for it’s value”  as my Indian co-worker would say.  I will later learn that good reviews don’t necessarily reflect a good experience every time!

Complimentary Bread and Indian Chip

I have no idea what this is called! Can someone help me?  The “chip” almost tastes like corn chips but with a different texture.  This is strangely addictive to eat! The best part is that it’s for free! Instead of giving bread like at most restaurants, you get this!
