Mid-Autumn Festival: Mooncakes

The annual Mid-Autumn Festival is on Saturday October 3rd and my mother has already received a few boxes of mooncakes.   Click on the above link to Wikipedia to read all about this holiday.  I will write all about it on the day of the holiday.  Right now I want to share a few pictures of the different kinds of mooncakes that are my personal fan favorites!

I LOVE MALAYSIAN MOONCAKES! I get excited when my mother bring  home Malaysian mooncakes or get it from her friends because they are my absolutely favorite.  Malaysian mooncakes in my opinion aren’t as heavy and sweet as the Chinese ones in my experience.  This one tastes light and it’s subtly sweet and you can eat the whole thing with no problem.  There is a slight crunch when you take a bite of the cake which I love.  I don’t know if it is the actual lotus seed, but I love it.  The ingredients are high quality and this is certified halal.

I have not personally tried this, but when I do I will let you know! It looks delicious.

I am not a fan of snow skin mooncake, which is essential mooncake that does not need to be baked because it is made of glutinous rice flour! I don’t understand why this type of mooncake is more expensive than the baked ones since there’s less work involved when making this! Anyways, Taipan bakery, which you can locate in Chinatown,  is selling this.  Luckily it comes in four varities which I listed above.  My only favorite snow skin mooncake is the sesame flavor one.  The skin is rubbery and it works well with the sesame flavor.  When I try the others, especially the lotus seed one, I feel like eating glutinous rice flour.   Everyone have their own preference, but honestly this isn’t as bad as the ones that I’ve tried in the past!

Anyways, I will post up more mooncakes when I come across to more!

Until next time,

- FCG

I’ll have to try the Malaysian mooncakes. I think I can get only one from Kam Man right? I’m glad that we stopped buying mooncakes. We never can finish one box.

Does your family finish all the mooncakes you get?
