Infamous Taste of Pakistan – Student Biryani Food Cart
*Second Update*
Great news! The Student Biryani truck is back but with a different look! They took off the red poster on the side of their truck and replaced it with LED neon light animated sign! Unfortunately I forgot to snap a photo for your viewing pleasure, but I will next time! My friend and I have spoke with the person there that night and apparently the Student Biryani truck was always there, but only during the day time. Since it was just one person working there, it was hard to take the night shift as well. Fortunately, this new guy is hired and he is working the night shift. Now, if you happen to be in the neighborhood, check him out! You can’t go wrong with $5 plus in my opinion you will have a damn good delicious meal!!
Until next time,

*Update*
I was advised by my loyal readers that this Student Biryani cart is no longer there. I took a trip over there, not once but twice, just to see if this was the case, and unfortunately he’s no longer there. How disappointing.
If you happen to see this cart, hit me up!!

For those of you who doesn’t know, I am a HUGE fan of biryani! HUGE! My Pakistani friend Tahsin and Indian friend Leena was ever so generous to share with me their mother’s home cooked version of chicken biryani which I will share you pictures of. Both have obvious and similar ingredients like rice and the usage of chicken, but the seasonings and other spices is what separates them in taste and style. This is what I love about ethnic food. Check out my post on the Pakistani take on biryani.
I did not make a post on the Indian version of biryani but I will post you up a picture for you to see:
Chicken Biryani - Indian Version
The difference can definitely be seen and you can only imagine what the taste is like.
I consulted with my Pakistani friend about this food cart and he tells me that Student Biryani is a name brand biryani which is based from his hometown in Karachi. He of course was naturally excited to know that Student Biryani exists here, even as a food cart, so that gave me more of an incentive to eat out from there.
A little fun facts about Student Biryani:
- - Business has been around for over 40 years
- – Is a huge chain restaurant, called Cafe Biryani, which is located in the cities of Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, and Dubai
- – Can order their food in advance on their website and have it ready for pickup.
Now according to the owner, this is the same exact Student Biryani which is based in Karachi, Pakistan.

The owner is very humble in attitude and had no problems of me taking photos of him with my cell phone. In fact, he asked why I didn’t take a picture of him since I was taking pictures of his whole entire cart. Most people normally would not like their photo to be taken, but luckily he did not have that kind of attitude which I like. He is definitely good peoples.
And now presenting:

Chicken Biryani - Student Biryani Brand
Let me tell you, no picture in this world can do justice to this chicken biryani. The chicken and rice is so powerfully moist and flavorful that the chicken literally falls off from the bone. There are flavor components of sindh and bombay biryani which has potatoes, onions, red and green chillies, ginger, mint, peppercorn, cloves, cardamom, cumin, and yogurt. You can definitely tastes all of this.
You can request for hot and white sauce for your eating pleasure. I personally think you should go easy with the sauces as the biryani itself is flavorful enough without it.
Overall this is one of the best biryani’s I have ever had. The world of biryani is so huge, and I cannot wait to try them all.
Until next time,

If I’m ever in the neighborhood, I will definitely try and stop by and will tell him that he is famous on FineChinaGirl!
wow, great. I was wondering how good this place is.
As late as 2001 or 2002, they used have a physical store across the street from where the cart is located. I remember the business not doing so well back then. The food business is very competitive in the junction area of broadway and roosevelt.
Next time, try the cart adjacent to the Vendy winner cart. They do halal chicken pakistan style as well. $2.50 for pita full of chicken or lamb. Really awesome food and open 24 hrs.
ii read ur review tonight and it seemed soo good ii had to drive to get it…but wen i went the cart was not there…very disappointed =(
