The idea about dining at this unique food establishment came when I thought about where to eat by Flatbush Food Market (Local Organic Co-Op) since I wanted to make a trip there. I will make post on that later. When I think Cortelyou Road, I think The Farm on Adderley.
Why???
Well, finally after hearing about all the amazing reviews about this restaurant from NY Magazine, NY Times, and somewhere on a local channel on TV, I’ve decided to come here with my brother for lunch. This restaurant is located four blocks away from the train station and it is surrounded by many gourmet restaurants as well as organic markets.
Right away when my brother and I stepped out of the train station, we noticed how there were young and healthy looking people with and without their families all around. Yes healthy looking! You should see the people in my neighborhood in Sheepshead Bay. I love my neighborhood, don’t get me wrong, but the people aren’t the healthiest looking bunch. But yes, what with all the organic shops all over the place and the young and educated looking people around, it’s a no brainer that the people here look the way they do. Eating right and eating good clearly seems like the vantage point for the people here. And heck, as my brother pointed out, look at the size of the platform at Cortelyou Road! We were walking with extremely caution for fear of slipping down the tracks, you can only imagine what the bigger people would feel! They would have to wait by the stairs until the train came! No joke.
The Farm on Adderly is a restaurant started up by people from the neighborhood who supports and obtain products from local farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs which is great. Food is prepared with integrity and with such wholesomeness that my brother and I were very eager to try.
At first glance into the glass window of The Farm on Adderley, my brother and I can already see how busy it is. We quickly jumped into the restaurant and confirmed that it is true. After a minute, we were greeted by the girl who came from the back of the restaurant and seated us by the front of the restaurant. How lucky we were! The dining area is divided into three parts: front, back and outdoor/garden area. And even then, this place was packed!
Momentarily, our waitress (Erica) came and she was warm and friendly. She asked if we wanted any drinks and encouraged us to ask her any questions regarding the menu. She did not rush us at all. After we looked at the menu, my brother decided to go with the much talked about Farm Burger and I went for the Omelet with tomato and basil without the mozzarella. I have heard that their french fries, farm burger and omelets are amazing and could not wait to try!
A light burger with English muffin with homemade french fries. I had a small piece of this burger and it tastes surprising good! I am used to eating burgers on a sesame bun with the beef patty drenched in oil and charbroiled goodness with grilled marks, but eating this delicious burger did not make me feel guilty. I do admit that the beef patty can be on the bland side, but if you put some of the sea salt and ketchup, it tastes amazing. A lightweight burger, paired with crispy golden french fries and a very sweet with a splash of sourness pickle. I must say, this pickle is the best pickle I have ever tasted. Pickles are usually sour, but this tasted clean and had a nice crunch. I loved it. The dipping sauce that came with the fries is very good. I have no idea what it tastes like, but I liked it!
The omelette comes with two pieces of toast with homemade strawberry jam, mixed greens, and sour cream. Firstly, let me tell you how much I LOVED the strawberry jam! It wasn’t too sweet and it doesn’t taste like the typical store bought jams. It tastes very fresh, with a clean hint of sweetness that makes it so addictive to eat! If Food Network came to ask me about my latest food obsession, I would say that it is the strawberry jam from The Farm on Adderley with toasts. Oh, it’s so addictive! If the restaurant made jam and sold it, you better believe I would buy it!
Back to the omelette, it is by far the best omelette I have ever tasted. First of all, I can never make an omelette like that. It is fluffy on the outside, but when you cut into it, the tomatoes and the basil are still moist. Once you take your first bite, you will experience and explosion on basil and tomato taste in your mouth. I loved it. I did add a little salt on it and it just made the omelette that much more tasty!
My brother and I loved the meal here. The staff is friendly, the waitress encouraged me to take lots of pictures, and more importantly the food tasted clean, healthy and very tasty. I highly encourage you to come visit this restaurant. Nothing is more important in your life than your health. So eat right and eat healthy!
Until next time,
<3 FCG

u are an excellent writer!! keep up the good work!!!! i really enjoyed your review!
You sold me on the burger. I definitely want to try that.
From the bottles of wines that I can see on their shelves (photos #2 and 4), they seem to have young wines (bottles look new). Would you know if they also have lots of relatively old vintage wines (for ie: in between 1989 – 2005)? Thanks
