Day 3 – Nature’s Path Organic Flax Plus Pumpkin Raisin Cereal & Taco Truck
I like to emphasize how important it is to have a healthy breakfast. There are a lot of people out there, including some family and friends that I know that skip breakfast because either they don’t have the time to eat or think that they can lose weight by eating less. The rule of thumb, I believe, is to have a heavy yet healthy breakfast that offers you a combination of fiber, carbs, some proteins and lots of vitamins that your body will sorely need to power through the morning. This is the energy that your body needs the most to get working at burning fat. Key: Fat burning, not fat storing is important. And you do this by eating right. Yes, eating healthy will get your body burning the fat. Once you skip a meal or not eat at all, your body has nothing to work and therefore start storing this fat. So remember to eat! And eat healthy!!
By mid morning of course you can have a snack like a fiber one bar or some nuts or yogurt if you haven’t had that for breakfast and then throughout the day you can consume less. The more fiber you have, the less cravings you will have. I have personally learned this from my dear friend who has exemplified the physical embodiment of a healthy body and mind and also through Jillian Michael’s book, Master Your Metabolism.
Just remember, again, the human body is like a furnace. The only way it will start burning is when you give it some fuel and then it will burn faster and stronger over time.
Now, just like most working individuals, sometimes I don’t have time to eat as much as I want. So in the mornings, I find a way to eat a healthy bowl of cereal like this one:

Afternoon Madness (Part 1): Blueberry Crumb Muffins
On this lazy Sunday afternoon, right about 2PM I woke up to the sound of my father beating down on my bedroom door calling me for lunch. I walked out of my room looking like a mad witch and glanced over at the dining room table. My brother and my father were already settled in their seats eating, and they turned their heads to look at me as I was passing by to the bathroom. A look of disgust was plastered all over my face as I exclaimed that I refuse to eat that for lunch. My father was speechless and looked angry since he made several attempts to wake me up just so that I can insult the food that he made. That was wrong on my behalf, but there was just no way in the hell I was going to eat cow stomach/tripe, scrambled eggs, and some veggies.
After I washed up, I opened the refrigerator and saw whole milk and blueberries. After standing there about a couple of minutes, I decided to bake blueberry crumb muffins. I remembered my co-worker Khris told me that he had a failed attempt with those muffins on Mother’s Day, and I had promise him that I would make some to show him. I have never made it before, but I wanted to see what he experience and see if I could succeed where he has failed. Now, I’m not a fan of eating blueberries straight up, and I’m also not a fan of whole milk, so the logical thing is to make use of both.
One of the recent food blogs that I enjoy reading now is My Kitchen Cafe. I came here to look for a blueberry crumb muffin recipe and I did just that! The recipe seems simple enough so I decided to go with that.
I tweaked just a little bit of the recipe, but otherwise it would be the same!

After a night of booze, we had a late start in Ottawa the next day. So what better way to wake up a hang over than with food! Brunch it was! We went back to Byward Market looking for this out of the way gem. It was very nondiscript and we almost missed it. The Murray Street Restaurant (on Murray Street!), is right next to the Byward Market with a large Pig with a M on the glass door.

Apparently this place was started by Paddy Whelan and Chef Steve Mitton, formerly of Social Restaurant & Lounge. Social is a very swanky Restaurant & Lounge right by Byward Market. When I say swanky, its swanky, dress up! Anyway, here’s a sneak peak.

Torto’s Instant Sesame Paste
Winter is the perfect time to have a nice warm bowl of black sesame paste! When I was a child, my parents would always buy me this and I would always drink bowl and bowls of this sweet decadent delight because it was just so fun and mildly sweet to drink! You can literally drink this at ANY time. I would used to drink it in the mornings before I left for school and then I would drink it again at night before I slept. I really love this! So, if you’re feeling adventurous, pick it up at your local Asian supermarket and try it for yourself!

Koryodang Bakery: Red Bean Paste Bun & Sweet Rice Ball
Its pretty nice living out in Bayside, Queens. There’s so many places to eat, especially Korean food. After eating some Korean Fried Chicken at Kyochon (post coming soon), I still had enough room for a sweet snack. Right across the street from Kyochon on Northern Blvd (and 157th street), there’s a Koryodang. It’s a nice bakery with a lots of treats, breads, pastries, cakes and drinks. They have a good variety of baked goods, some items being similiar to that of Chinese Bakeries. If you have time and near a Koryodang, definitely stop by, grab a snack and drink. Don’t be afraid to try out a few of their snacks. Enjoy!
