Mid-Autumn Festival: Mooncakes

The annual Mid-Autumn Festival is on Saturday October 3rd and my mother has already received a few boxes of mooncakes.   Click on the above link to Wikipedia to read all about this holiday.  I will write all about it on the day of the holiday.  Right now I want to share a few pictures of the different kinds of mooncakes that are my personal fan favorites!

Here’s Part 1 & Part 2 of this series!

The final part of this Restaurant, Phew! Here’s the rest of the dishes my friends and I had.

Montreal Au Pied de Fried Cod Fish

Montreal Au Pied de Fried Cod Fish Fritters $6.00

The Fried Codfish was not spectacular, the outside was fried too much. It was very hard and crunchy but the inside was soft and tender. I would skip this for something tastier for appetizer.

Montreal Au Pied de Cochon Venison Champvallon

Montreal Au Pied de Cochon Venison Champvallon $22.00

The Venison Champvallon is a Stew (Deer). There are several ways the Venison is prepared on the menu including Champvallon, Steak & Frites, Tartare, and Ribs. Along side the Venison is Bison (Buffalo), you may choose either prepared as listed. The stew is cooked with potatoes underneath with the stew on the top. The cut is lean and but as it was a stew, it was very tender. It reminded me very much of a beef stew in taste and texture but with a bit of gaminess to the meat like lamb.

More right after!

If you didn’t read the First Part of this series, please do! You’ll want to know more about the “Duck in a Can!”

My buddies on this trip were not so bold as to try the artery clogging food I had braved. They went for other items on the menu that looked good but nearly as life threatening. This next dish was not as fatty but almost as tasty as the Duck in a Can was, but you won’t need a triple bypass after eating it!

So I’m still on my road trip in Canada, Trois Rivieres to be exact. The trip has been a blast so far and barely had time to actually post about it. I’m going to skip going through sequential order and just post about some of the great places I’ve eaten at in Montreal while I’m still on my road trip.

Au Pied de Cochon Montreal

Au Pied de Cochon Montreal

Au Pied de Cochon, the trendy restaurant that we actually managed to get seats at on a sunday night. This was mentioned to me by several people and from Anthony Bourdain’s show, No Reservations. After arriving at Montreal sunday night, we managed to get reservations at 10 pm and still had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. By then, it was beginning to clear out. When we first arrived, the line was out the door, packed to capacity. Definitely make reservations otherwise be prepared to wait. If you do go without reservations, go late, after 10pm, and you might manage to get a table (Picture was taken near closing time).

Vegans and Vegetarians, be warned, this is not the restaurant for you. This place is home to pork and duck fat. The restaurant name itself means literally “At the Foot of the Pig.”

More after the Jump!

MGM Grand Hotel @ Las Vegas

Finechinaguy and I visited Las Vegas in November of 2007.  After nearly two years of hiatus, I finally can write about this post!  Of course there are just so many more posts to cover, but I will cover what time will allow!  So please be patience and stay tune for more posts, and many of them are from Vegas!

Craftsteak Restaurant

Craftsteak Restaurant

When you come to Las Vegas, you have to at least try one of the “brand name” restaurants!  Sure there are lots of affordable buffets, but let your tastebuds indulge in deliciously crafted gourmet food!  Yes it can be expensive, but you pay for what you get.

MGM Grand was the hotel that we stayed at and fortunately for us Craftsteak was conveninetly located here!  The only reason I know about Craftsteak is because of Top Chef.  Tom Colicchio, who is a familiar face on that show, is the owner of this restaurant.  After watching many episodes of Top Chef and having great respect for Chef Colicchio, I knew I had to try this restaurant.  It’s funny how this restaurant is also located in New York City, but I never really bother to go because of time or because I never think it’s in my budget.  But since I’m on vacation, I might as well splurge a little!
